Bite the wax tadpole

Ahh... the old trick of translating something from English to Chinese and back to English again. Does it ever get old?

I like to take headlines from newspapers and put them through Google Translate this way. It is especially amusing because headlines are practically their own dialect, and it is always a hoot poking fun at a computer program that has probably done more for the advancement of humanity than I ever will.

Washington Post - July 16, 2008

Going in:

“Speculation Swirls on Favre and Packers”

Coming out:

"Swirl of speculation on Dominique Favre and packaging"

--------------------------------------------

I know it's easy to make fun of translation programs, but seriously, where the hell did "Dominique" come from?

I swear to Warren Zevon that I do not touch these up one bit. The software just decided that Bret Farve's first name is actually Dominique.
